LEGO ROBOTICS
Nelson Intermediate students learning the basics of CPR and how to use the new defibrillator located on site.
Nelson Intermediate students participated in their first Lego Robotics competition in 2017. The competition is supported by school throughout New Zealand with winning team gaining entry to the world championships
Robotics has since been integrated into the NIS Technology curriculum programme. Students also have the opportunity to join a robotics club which operates as an extension programme and is accessible to students during lunch times.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop the skills of coding, problem-solving and collaboration in a stimulating and engaging environment.
OUTDOOR EDUCATION
Nelson Intermediate students enjoy the privilege of spending a week at school camp during the course of the year. Camp venues are Lake Rotoiti and Totaranui.
Students experience the amazing beauty of the national parks and participate in a range of activities over the course of 4 days, supported by their homeroom teacher, additional staff members and several parent helpers.
Some classes will have the experience of a summer camp while others will enjoy what the winter months have to offer.
SCIENCE ROADSHOW
The Science Roadshow is a mobile science show which travels around the country each year with fascinating and intriguing displays of science in action. The travelling show is run by a team of teachers who demonstrate and teach the science concept to class groups. Nelson Intermediate hosted the show this year and our students participated and help with the explanation of exhibits for the duration of the show.
CYCLE SAFETY
Nelson Intermediate students enjoy riding their bicycles to school. Our bike stands house a vast amount of bikes belonging to students who ride a range of distances to Nelson Intermediate school.
The importance of cycling and student safety is supported by a cycle safety programme for all students in the first term of each year. The programme covers a range of bike handling skills as well as competence and safety when riding on the road.
