Te Pītau Whakarei

Te Pītau Whakarei provides Level 2 Māori Medium education at Nelson Intermediate School. The learning and classroom programme is developed with the values, aspirations and needs of our students, whānau, hapori, hapū and iwi.

Te Marautanga o Aotearoa

The classroom programmes are guided by the curriculum document Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Central to Te Marautanga o Aotearoa is the Treaty of Waitangi.  Students will grow as competent and confident learners, effective communicators in the Māori world and the wider world, healthy of mind, body and soul, and secure in their identity, and sense of belonging.

Te Āhua o ā tātou Ākonga/The Graduate Profile

The desire and objectives of Whānau, iwi, hapū, Kāhui Ako ki Whakatū and hapori will assist with the development of  Te Āhua o ā tātou Ākonga/The Graduate Profile. This profile will shape the values, the skills, the attitudes and the knowledge students will have when they leave Nelson Intermediate School. The Graduate Profile will underpin the teaching and learning programmes, organisation, interactions and way of being.

Kapa Haka

Te Pītau Whakarei is also the name of the school Kapa Haka Group. Students from Te Pītau Whakarei class and students from the wider school are part of this roopu. Te Pītau Whakarei has enjoyed regional success and are competing in Te Mana Kuratahi Nationals in 2023.
